CAIR: Just a Shadow of Its Former Self, But Still Plenty Shadowy

A Washington Times article reports how tax documents obtained from the IRS reveal that the membership of Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has fallen by 90% since 9/11. “CAIR membersip falls 90% since 9/11”).

From a total of more than 29,000 in 2000, CAIR membership has plummeted to fewer than 1,700 dues-paying members in 2006.

One critic, fellow Muslim M. Zuhdi Jasser, director of American Islamic Forum for Democracy, is quoted saying it is a “myth” that CAIR represents the American Muslim population, as opposed to only its donors and members.

“’Post-9/11, they have marginalized themselves by their tired exploitation of media attention for victimization issues at the expense of representing the priorities of the American Muslim population,’ Mr. Jasser said.”

In spite of the lack of dues-paying members, CAIR has from 19 to 26 contributors who have provided up to $2.6 million annually. The donor names were redacted in the tax documents obtained by the Washington Times.

CAIR has a long association with the Muslim Brotherhood. A recent federal indictment charging the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development with fund-rasing for Hamas, money laundering, and tax fraud, listed CAIR among 300 unindicted co-conspirators.

Great comments and very insightful regarding this organization. Why don't more people see it for what it is?

My oldest son spent two tours with the 5th marines in Iraq, he says that Islam is the most hateful and shameful religion in existance today.
