Disruptive Toledo Man Mentally Ill

According to the Miami Herald, the latest information on the disruptive passenger on board the flight from Miami to Detroit on Wednesday is that he was mentally ill.

An Ohio man who became loud and disruptive aboard a Wednesday night flight from Miami to Detroit -- at one point telling those around him he ``wanted to kill all the Jews'' -- was removed from the airplane before takeoff and arrested.

The man was identified as Mansor Mohammad Asad, 43, who authorities say posed no potential security threat.
("Man taken off Miami-Detroit plane saying `kill all Jews' had mental problems").

The story also identifes the other three Arabs removed from the plane as Asad's sister, daughter, and girlfriend.

His son stated that his father suffers from bipolar disorder. I haven’t any reason to doubt the son’s explanation, or that this was a very unfortunate situation no doubt very embarrassing for Asad’s family. I planned to comment on this, but when I found the other three passengers were female family members, and about this man’s mental illness, I decided not to say much.

But just the same, I couldn’t say I’ve heard that the symptoms of bipolar disorder include a desire to kill all the Jews.

That’s a different disorder.
