We see where Brigitte Bardot is on trial for the fifth time for insulting Islam, which she fears is ruining her nation, France. Islam in France, she says, is "destroying our country and imposing its acts".

PARIS (Reuters) - French former film star Brigitte Bardot went on trial on Tuesday for insulting Muslims, the fifth time she has faced the charge of "inciting racial hatred" over her controversial remarks about Islam and its followers.

Prosecutors asked that the Paris court hand the 73-year-old former sex symbol a two-month suspended prison sentence and fine her 15,000 euros (12,071 pounds) for saying the Muslim community was "destroying our country and imposing its acts".

Since retiring from the film industry in the 1970s, Bardot has become a prominent animal rights activist but she has also courted controversy by denouncing Muslim traditions and immigration from predominantly Muslim countries.

She has been fined four times for inciting racial hatred since 1997, at first 1,500 euros and most recently 5,000.

Prosecutor Anne de Fontette told the court she was seeking a tougher sentence than usual, adding: "I am a little tired of prosecuting Mrs Bardot."

Bardot did not attend the trial because she said she was physically unable to. The verdict is expected in several weeks.

French anti-racist groups complained last year about comments Bardot made about the Muslim feast of Eid al-Adha in a letter to President Nicolas Sarkozy that was later published by her foundation.

Muslims traditionally mark Eid al-Adha by slaughtering a sheep or another animal to commemorate the prophet Abraham's willingness to sacrifice his son on God's orders.
France is home to 5 million Muslims, Europe's largest Muslim community, making up 8 percent of France's population.

"I am fed up with being under the thumb of this population which is destroying us, destroying our country and imposing its acts," the star of 'And God created woman' and 'Contempt' said.
Bardot has previously said France is being invaded by sheep-slaughtering Muslims and published a book attacking gays, immigrants and the unemployed, in which she also lamented the "Islamisation of France".

So not only has Ms. Bardot a dim view of France being invaded by Islamists, she also doesn't like gays. C'est terrible!

I'm just a bit too young for Brigitte. I was only just being born when And God Created Woman was being filmed.



But even if not for the sake of images like the above, between Ms. Bardot and the Muslim immigrants who have created the no-go zones, I have to sympathize with Ms. Bardot. She must feel strongly about it, to take the same medicine five times.

How Much Longer Must We Tolerate the Danes?

Danish youths riot for sixth night

COPENHAGEN (Reuters) - Gangs of rioters set fire to cars and garbage trucks in northern Copenhagen on Friday, the sixth night of rioting and vandalism that has spread from the capital to other Danish cities, police said on Saturday.

Five youths were arrested in the capital on Friday after 28 cars and 35 garbage trucks were burned, Copenhagen police duty officer Jakob Kristensen told Reuters.

Danish media said arrests in other towns brought to 29 the number of people police were holding.

Scores of cars and several schools have been vandalized or burned in the past week. Police could give no reason, but said that unusually mild weather and the closure of schools for a winter break might have contributed.


Now, at the risk of coming across as politically incorrect, there is something I just have to say about the rioting in Denmark, and I don't really care whose feelings get hurt. I'm not buying this about the police not knowing the reasons for all this; they know darn well the Danish people clearly are out of control.

I’m getting sick and tired of the conspiracy of silence when Danish people have to cause, for no reason at all, this kind of violence and mayhem. Nor do I know why there's any nation left in Europe, or in America, still willing to put up with the Danish people, and especially with their angry and volatile youth. Obviously, things have gone too far when, as is widely reported by Reuters and others, the youth of Denmark are willing to riot, burn, and vandalize, for no other reason than that they’re not in school and the weather is mild.

But no one seems to want to face up to the plain truth of it. In one tragic example of denial, some social workers tried to tell Reuters they thought the riots "might" have been fuelled by the arrests of some Tunisians and a Moroccan, who happened to plan spending their school holiday murdering a cartoonist who’d drawn a picture of Mohammed.

Yet the social workers' explanation directly contradicts what the Danish police said, and aren't the police much better equipped to interpret facts and evidence than social workers are? Besides, as news report after news report repeatedly clarifies, the rioters aren’t Muslims or North Africans, but Danish youth.

My point is that West continues to ignore this growing Danish menace at its peril. Isn't it high time that political and religious leaders, media, and intellectuals stopped making excuses, and we all faced up frankly to the fact that no one can get along with the Danes?

And we all have a pretty good idea why.

While some waste time trying to point to the “root causes” behind the uprising of Danish youth, (high standard of living, free health care and tuition, a surplus of blonde girls), few are willing to discuss openly the role that religion plays in shaping the minds of impressionable young Danes.

Yes, I said it. I blame religion.

It happens to be a matter of history that from 1536 onward the Danish people have been forced to live under the state-sponsored brand of religion preached by the aggressive “Evangelical Lutheran Church.” So effective has been this dictatorship of the mind that 95% of the population now consider themselves Evangelical Lutherans. And we're supposed to believe this upsurge in violence has nothing to do with the Danish religion?

And I'm well aware that pointing out connections between uncivilized behavior and the influence of any particular religion is extremely offensive. Many believe that all religions are equal and deserve equal respect. It clearly follows that if one religion could be better or worse than any other, than multiculturalism would become impossible.

That's so logical, it’s hard to argue with. So let's supose for the sake of argument that maybe the problem isn't religion, but just that the Danish are, and have from ancient times, been naturally violent people, regardless of their religion.

After all, the Vikings were Danes, weren’t they? As far back as the 8th Century, even before they were Lutherans, the Vikings were trying to
take over the world.

They were forever raiding and committing rapine throughout Europe, even going so far as to attack Muslim Spain and Morocco.

Now, modern day Danish-Lutherans with Viking blood are still trying to impose their narrow views on other peoples, including in Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere.



Isn't it about time the world stood up to Denmark once and for all?

Wake up Europe! Wake up America!

Or some day very soon we're all going to be eating meatballs and watching American Idol in Danish.

Second Thoughts on Planetarium Visits

We were making a mild funny about planetariums yesterday, drawing this priceless response from correspondent John Ruberry at Marathon Pundit:

How low will the forces of political correctness stoop?

Well, all the way down to the basement of Chicago's Adler Planetarium, that's for certain.I took Litte Marathon Pundit there Tuesday afternoon. She's on spring break from school this week, and her third grade class is spending a lot of time discussing astronomy.

The planetarium underwent a major expansion in the 1990s, I hadn't been there since the project was completed. My daughter liked our day-trip a lot, and that was enough for me.

Almost.

My probing eye picked up some frightening political-correctness in the astrolobe section of the planetarium. Astrolobes were devices commonly used, prior to the invention of the sextant, for navigation.

However, these instruments were also used to predict star positions, and in the Islamic world, they were utilized to find the precise direction of Mecca so a Muslim could pray in the right direction.

Hence the Muslim interest in astrolabes.

The text pictured appears above the Adler astrolabe collection, it reads:

In the Middle Ages, the Islamic from Seville (Spain) to Samarkand (Uzbekistan). The position of each astrolabe on this map shows where it was made.Non-Muslims, such as Jews and Christians, prospered under tolerant Islamic rule. (Emphasis mine.) Throughout this vast area, people studied the sky using tools created in the great Islamic cities.

Huh? What does the (alleged) Muslim toleration of Jews in Christians in the Medieval Muslim world have to do astrolabes?

In my opionion, absolutely nothing.According to numerous sources, including Robert Spencer's The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam (and the Crusades):


The astrolabe was developed, if not perfected, long before Muhammad was born.

As for the Muslim tolerance of Jews and Christians that the Adler display referred to, it was not any type of tolerance that a multi-cultural society would recognize.

Jews, Christians and members of other faiths living in Muslim lands during the Middle Ages were forced to pay a jizya, a poll tax to the Muslim rulers. Conversion to Islam would get them out of that responsibility. Death or slavery could be the fate for those who didn't pay up--or convert.

Have you heard of the Janissaries? No? From Wikipedia:

The first Janissary units comprised war captives and slaves. After the 1380s Sultan Selim I filled their ranks with the results of taxation in human form called devshirmeh. The sultan’s men would conscript as a form of tax in-human-kind a number of non-Muslim, usually Christian, boys – at first at random, later, by strict selection – and take them to be trained. In later centuries they appear to have favored essentially Greeks and Albanians (who also supplied many gendarmes). Usually they would select about one in five boys of ages seven to fourteen but the numbers could be changed to correspond with the need for soldiers. Later they would extend the devshirmeh to other Balkan countries. Local residents could hardly be expected to appreciate the custom, although there is evidence that some Christians sought to have their children recruited as a way to gain social advancement. In some cases bribes were given and ages were lied about.

Then there are the Corsairs from what is now Algeria, as Bernard Lewis writes in What Went Wrong? : The Clash Between Islam and Modernity in the Middle East:

...the Barbary Corsairs from North Africa were raiding the coasts of England and Ireland and even, in 1627, Iceland, bringing back human booty for sale in the slave-markets of Algiers.

St. Vincent de Paul, the founder of the Vincentian Order was perhaps the most famous slave captured by the Barbary pirates.

Let me return to that statement above the Adler's astrolabe exhibit:
Non-Muslims, such as Jews and Christians, prospered under tolerant Islamic rule.

Simply put, that statement is a lie.

So There's Not Always Room for Jell-O?

We all learned that, no matter how much you eat, there’s still always room for Jell-O.

OAK LAWN School district considers banning traditions seen as offensive to Muslims

So long, Halloween parade. Farewell, Santa's gift shop.

The holiday traditions are facing elimination in some Oak Lawn schools this year after complaints that the activities are offensive, particularly to Muslim students.

Final decisions on which of the festivities will be axed will fall to the principals at each of Ridgeland School District 122's five schools, Supt. Tom Smyth said.

Parents expect that the announcement is going to add to the tension that has been building since officials agreed earlier this month to change the lunch menu to exclude items containing pork to accommodate Muslim students. News that Jell-O was struck from the menu caused such a stir that officials have agreed to bring it back. Gelatin is often made with tissue or bones of pigs or other animals.

That controversy now appears to have been been dwarfed by the holiday debate, which became so acrimonious Wednesday that police were called to Columbus Manor School to intervene in a shouting match among parents.

"It's difficult when you change the school's culture," said Columbus Manor Principal Sandy Robertson.

Elizabeth Zahdan, a mother of three District 122 students, says she took her concerns to the school board this month, not because she wanted to do away with the traditions, but rather to make them more inclusive. "I only wanted them modified to represent everyone," she said.

Nixing them isn't the response she was looking for. "Now the kids are not being educated about other people," she said.

There's just not time in the six-hour school day to celebrate every holiday, said Smyth, who sent the message to principals that they need to "tone down" the activities that he sees as eating too much into instructional time. "We have to think about our purpose," Smyth said. "Are we about teaching reading, writing and math or for parties or fund-raising during the day?"

Robertson is hoping to strike compromises that will keep traditions alive and be culturally acceptable to all students -- nearly half of whom are of Arab descent at Columbus Manor, she says. Fewer than a third of students districtwide are of Arab descent, according to Smyth.

Following the example of Lieb Elementary School, Columbus Manor School will exchange the annual Halloween parade for a fall festival next month. The holiday gift bazaars at both schools also will remain, but they'll likely be moved to the PTA-sponsored after-school winter festival. And Santa's annual visit probably will be on a Saturday.

And you thought atheist parents were causing trouble. At least they left the Jell-O alone.

As usual, the "tension" in this situation started building as soon as school officials, (who often have their backbones and rigid spinal tissue removed to make gelatin) took the path of least resistance and told Muslim parents, "Sure, Jell-O offends you, so we'll fix it so that no one can have Jell-O."

And why not? If a minority population is having trouble adjusting to your culture, just change the culture!

But it turned out "it's difficult when you change the school's culture," according to Columbus Manor Principal Sandy Robertson.

It's a funny thing that in this story the banning of Jell-O is more offensive to me than trying to keep Santa out. For one thing, there've been so many anti-Santa movements over the years that I find it a crashing bore. At least Santa is legitimately a big target, no pun intended. Face it, all those efforts to claim Santa Claus is not a religious figure just don't cut it. The man's a saint, for God's sake. And he's giving gifts on Jesus' birthday and all that.

I'm not saying I think he should be banned. I'm just saying those who don't happen to celebrate Jesus' birthday, or have a non-Santa-recognizing religion may resent seeing him around just a bit.

But what gives anyone the right to say that, because I find gelatin foods blasphemous, that kid over there can't eat Jell-O, either?

Apparently, in schools in Muslim cultures, everyone can't get Jell-O, so let's make Oak Lawn schools "inclusive" by fixing it so every kid, even non-Muslims, can't get Jell-O.

Represents everyone, see?

Now everyone can enjoy a no-Halloween "fall festival," a harvest-themed celebration that will mean a whole lot to "everyone" in this highly-urban Oak Lawn Chicago suburb.

At least the parents raised hell and got their Jell-O back, even if Santa has to come in through the service entrance and Jack-O-Lanterns will not be allowed.

Bailey's Accused Murderers Have History of Enforcing Islam the Hard Way

As reports pointed to yesterday, the gun used to murder former Detroit News writer Chauncey Bailey in Oakland, California has been traced by police there to the Black Muslim group that operates the Your Black Muslim Bakery. (“Police believe they have journalist's killer”). Among the seven men arrested on Friday are Yusuf Bey IV, son of Yusuf Bey, the founder of the bakery. (“Black Muslim bakery members suspected in Bailey death").

As of this morning, a 19-year-old handyman connected with the bakery has confessed to the killing (“Report: Bakery Handyman Confesses To Bailey Slaying”).

It was fairly widely known that Bailey, who was working for the Oakland Post at the time of his killing, “had been working on a story about ‘the financial status of the organization’' and the ‘`activities of a number of people who were working in the organization,’ including possible criminal activity.”

According to the San Francisco Chronicle and other sources, the Black Muslim group had a long history of violence, intimidation, and other criminal activity, including rape and kidnapping. Though Louis Farrakhan’s Nation of Islam denies connection with the bakery group, the bakery gang’s founder, Yusuf Bey, and its current members, all wear the distinctive "You Can Call Me Minister Farrakhan bow-tie and slick street menace, and they call themselves "Black Muslims." You can get a look at the younger Yusuf Bey’s TV interview on Thursday night. The highlight of Bey’s spiel, which he gave after Bailey's murder, was his stated devotion to “cleaning the streets up.”

According to Bay Area KTVU-TV:

"Lt. Ersey Joyner, head of the homicide unit at the Oakland Police Department, said, 'In my opinion several members of the bakery have been involved in a very violent enterprise and carried themselves in a manner that was disrespectful to the community and to law enforcement.' Joyner said, 'They are very callous and appear to have believed that they were untouchable.'" ("OAKLAND POLICE: Muslim Bakers Lived Lawless Life”).

Maybe this was why they seemed so unconcerned at being caught on security video when a bunch of them trashed a liquor store in November 2005--one of two they wrecked that night. Significantly, the attackers made clear to the store clerks that they were angry that the “Muslim-owned business would sell liquor when it's against the teachings of Islam to do so.” (“Oakland Liquor Store Vandalism Defendants Considering Plea Bargains”).

Still, in spite of the clearly religious basis of the attacks, Oakland police at the time said “the motive for the attacks was to express anger about the large number of liquor stores in the city's black community.” In the same vein, now Oakland Assistant Police Chief Howard Jordan, “[r]eferring to the alleged criminal activity and today's arrests…said, ‘This should not be seen as religious.’”

Intimidating reporters is also an important part of the Your Black Muslim Bakery's community outreach. In 2002 a previous series of reports on the group for the San Francisco weekly, East Bay Express, led to escalating threats against the reporter to the point the paper “stopped writing about the group," and the reporter had to hide out in another county after that. (“Bakery linked to violence in the past”).

In this case, Walter Riley, the attorney for the Oakland Post, the newspaper for whom Bailey was investigating the gang’s criminal activity when he was gunned down, now says “the newspaper was unable to verify key details of the story and decided not to run it, possibly abandoning the article altogether.” Since Bailey was just killed the day before, the newspaper has no business saying it couldn't verify the details of what was probably a complicated investigative story. But we all know what Riley meant: 'we get the message and we're laying off."

Donna Ayo, a community leader who knew Bailey a long time, said she knew about Bailey’s story. She said "'I know about the article they did not approve of. But they're not above the board. They (the Black Muslims) don't get a pass.’”

Two newspapers have already dropped stories about these thugs out of fear. We'll see if they get a pass or not.
