Sharia's Plump Target in Minnesota

A Minnesota food-processing plant and an employment agency just knuckled under in a religious-discrimination lawsuit brought by 156 Somali Muslims.
Bias suits settled with Gold'n Plump, job agency
Muslim workers receive $1.35 million under a religious discrimination settlement.

Last update: March 31, 2009 - 11:00 PM
A federal judge gave approval for Gold'n Plump Inc. and an employment agency to pay $1.35 million to settle lawsuits alleging religious discrimination against Muslims at a chicken processing plant in Cold Spring, Minn.

The money will go to 128 Somali Muslims who claim that St. Cloud-based Gold'n Plump violated their religious rights by refusing to allow them prayer breaks during work hours, and to another 28 workers who said a St. Paul employment agency, the Work Connection Inc., required them to sign forms acknowledging they would be required to handle pork.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission investigated the allegations and said it found cause to believe discrimination occurred, according to lawsuits filed last year.

In a settlement approved Tuesday by U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeanne Graham, Gold'n Plump will add a paid break during the second half of each shift to accommodate Muslim employees who wish to pray. The break is in addition to one early in the shift and lunch breaks required by law.

The Work Connection has agreed to provide offers of employment to the 28 job seekers who were turned away for not signing the "pork form."

The $1.35 million settlement includes $985,000 for legal costs and $365,000 in cash payments to the 156 workers.

It’s important to keep in mind that this was a settlement, not the result of a trial on the merits. The court’s opinion approving the settlement found that Gold’n Plump and the employment agency were forced to settle because the expenses of proceeding with the case would have risked financial disaster.

A major factor motivating TWC and Gold’n Plump to settle was the adverse effect of litigation costs on their insurance policy limits. Both Gold’n Plump and TWC had liability insurance for the types of claims asserted in this case, but the
policies contained provisions that reduced the amount of money available to pay a judgment as litigation expenses increased. Thus, as litigation proceeded, the assets of TWC and Gold’n Plump were increasingly exposed. Furthermore, TWC’s and Gold’n Plump’s attorneys’ fees were being paid from the same pool of insurance money that was potentially available to pay a judgment, and further litigation would have continually eroded this fund.

Trial lawyers strategize for just these kinds of advantages. They trawl for cases where the costs of litigation force defendants to settle even where there’s no likelihood a jury is going to find any wrongdoing.

Not only do the trial lawyers get an easy near -million in attorney fees, but the Muslim employees win an easy victory imposing Sharia rules in the American workplace.

I think we can all guess where the money awarded in this settlement will end up: a muslim "charity". This is yet another example of muslims using the courts and quasi-judicial bodies to raise money for terrorist groups and religious schools. Shame on the dhimmis that sit in judgment on the "Equal" Employment Opportunity Commission! Religion is something best left at home.

imposing sharia law... hardly-give me a break. These types of things happen all the time. And being involved in the law profession, you ought to know that the S.C's decisions are absolutely mind boggling when it comes to religious freedom(Sherbert, lukumi, etc etc). The courts decisions differ and hinge on so many variables that it can be quite unclear how a court will rule. Anyway, i do think your analysis of trial lawyers in this case is spot on.

Anonymous,

Yes, these things happen all the time. Why do they happen? Is it the S.C. or trial lawyers demanding foot baths (at taxpayer expense), prayer rooms, prayer breaks, dog and alcohol free taxi cabs?

NO

These things happen because Muslims have a religion that does not fit within our democratic society. These types of things happen because the Muslim Brotherhood and CAIR are setting the stage for implementing Sharia law.

This religion is impossible to accommodate unless we surrender to it. It desires to conquer the world and force itself on everyone. If we don't give in, we live as dhimmis.

Dhimmi a break

What am I going to do about it?

I plan to pop popcorn and continue watching and documenting the movements of Islam in the U.S. and rest of the world. It's a good show with a great plot. Too bad the characters are so vacuous. They clearly lack the temerity and ability to actually succeed.

One thing I've noticed about muslims is that they're overconfident. Like children, they've hyped themselves up to the point of being delusional.

With all of the muslim migration to the West, two things are happening in the real world, not in the mind of the muslims ;-)

1.) Westerners are getting a close up view of just how ugly and dirty islam really is. Blogs can help in this by bringing to the public's attention some of the dirty little secrets of islam such as "honour killings", female genital mutilation and the greed of muslims (this settlement in Minnesota is a perfect example). Islam is losing its lustre among those Westerners who thought it might have something to offer.

2.) Many muslims who move to the West take the opportunity to leave islam or religion altogether. Just Google "ex-muslims" and you can see many web sites dedicated to ex-muslims who have thrown off the chains of islam.

What am I going to do? Keep blogging and keep watching. Pass the popcorn!

you guys crack me up, ive lived in east dearborn all my life- the heart of your beloved "Dearbornistan" As a non-arab, non- muslim, I've never had one instance in which i felt threatened by these "ugly and dirty" Muslims you seem to worry about so much. my family has made some damn good friendships with muslims and arabs. Sure there have been tensions, but you probably couldn't understand the nuance.

Anonymous,

Thank-you for commenting and highlighting the sticky propaganda critically being glued to anyone who dares to critically evaluate Islam.
You called it "Dearbornistan". You assume it is some petty grudge about our town being taken over? No way. I am Arabic btw.

You say " 'dirty and ugly' ", we don't.

I love Muslims - they are people just like anyone else.

It is the Islam that is a problem.

Muslims are the primary victims of radical Islam. I grieve for them.

There's a word that your muslim friends may not have taught you: "taqqiyah". This is the concept, integral to islam, which allows muslims to conceal their real feelings and thoughts when speaking with non-muslims. They lie, in other words. I'm glad that you appear to have made friends with your muslim neighbours, just be aware of what that friendship means to you and what it means to them. I hope that you can understand the nuance.

zardoz, how do you feal about catholics? you know, with their foreign allegiance to the papacy?

I'm an atheist, so I feel sorry for anyone whose mind has been corrupted by religion. As far as Catholics are concerned, I think that the violence in Northern Ireland speaks volumes about the destructive nature of religion. However, Catholics are not nearly as fanatical or violent as muslims (not these days anyway ;) One of the main problems with islam is that it is ossified; islam stopped developing long ago. Muslims obey, they do not think. Islam has nothing to offer a thinking person.

zardoz, thanks for tip, glad to know that all those relationships were just one big lie. I'll be sure to pre-screen all future friends to make sure they aren't muslim

No need to screen your friendships, just be aware that a friendship between a muslim and a kafir is seen differently by the two parties. Be friends with muslims! Maybe you can talk some sense into some of them! Just remember that islam is a total package of religion, political ideology and Arabic culture. Islam is not "just another religion" and muslims owe their allegiance to islam over and above their friendship with you, their family, even their own lives. There are lots of nice muslim individuals out there, I've met a few, but I know where their ultimate loyalty lies and it is not to Canada, the U.S. or any Western notions of individuality or freedom of thought.

Sura (3:28) - "Let not the believers Take for friends or helpers Unbelievers rather than believers: if any do that, in nothing will there be help from Allah: except by way of precaution, that ye may Guard yourselves from them. But Allah cautions you (To remember) Himself; for the final goal is to Allah."

Ask your Muslim friends to explain this verse.

documenting! funny euphemism for sitting on one's butt and having no power.

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

50 said...

No power? Maybe. But the struggle between islam and the West is as much about public perception as it is about going out into the streets and throwing rocks at the nearest McDonald's (now there's power for you ;)

Organizations like CAIR do a lot of documenting. Documenting is an essential part of the struggle between islam and freedom. CAIR knows this. I know this. Why you don't know this is beyond me...

Still Anonymous,

Do you have power? The keypad is mightier than the sword.

I think you know this or you would not be typing so fastidiously yourself.
