Just by way of some comic relief, we see where a clinical social worker is facing federal charges of health care fraud for routinely reporting to Medicare that she spent more than 50 hours per day giving psychotherapy. (“Social worker arraigned”). It turns out many of her patients never even met with her.
After four years of fraudulent reporting the social worker, Nelda LeJeune-Hunt, was caught by a contract auditor for the State of Michigan reviewing her computerized billing records. For example, the auditor noticed she recorded 84 psychotherapy sessions, accounting for 62 hours, in just a single day’s billings.
The auditor figured out that after working 62 hours straight there'd be no time left in the day to sleep.
