fear is an even worse foundation for a national security policy, especially when you invade a country that you feared had weapons of mass destruction. oops
T.R - I think you are misapporaraiting the idea of hope. "Hope" was a reaction to the last 8 years of miserably failed politics of george bush et al. No one believes in this country anymore, and for good reason. Bush mismanaged our future to the point where we MIGHT be looking at another great depression.
Hope is what returning WWII veterans had when they came back from Europe and Japan. Hope is what got us out of the great depression. Hope is not what we have had for the last 8 years. No one is saying that america doesn't have the right to defend herself. But when that defense is premised on some mythical boogeyman, then there is a serious problem and we only need to look at Iraq to see the consequences.
Actually, I believe Bush has been quite successful, with a few minor exceptions. But no president gets 100%. It's just that, literally, he gets a very bad press. Some of us have been looking past that bad press all these years at the real story.
And I myself happen to believe in this country, and I know of many others who do, too, so I don't know who you're referring to when you say nobody believes in us any more. If you and everyone you know don't believe in this country, don't blame it on GWB.
You seem to believe the existence of America's enemies is a myth. OK. I won't try to change your mind. But you're viewpoint is unrealistic, and I daresay poorly informed. Personally, I prefer people in charge who see the threat and are trying to respond. And then there is your construing Iraq's lack of WMD stockpiles (they certainly had the programs and the plans to restart them) to be proof that we don't have any enemies(???). I myself am quite grateful that the present danger of a nuclearizing Iran has been dramatically lessened, (thanks to you-know-who), by no longer having a militant heavily-armed paranoid dictatorship of Saddam and his 2 evil sons, and a small army of Iraqi nuclear scientists, standing by right next door.
So Jug Hussein Ears weakens our defense. What's gonna happen? We lose a city. Which city? New York? Full of libs. No big loss. All financial data is backed up off site. It's called Geoplex.
San Francisco? Full of really stupid libs. Moo-slimes hate gays.
LA? Ironic that Hollywood hates America but Moo-slimes hate Hollywood.
So we lose a city full of libs and the Dems disappear as a party for the next generation.

ReplyDeleteAt least fear and security are logically related. What foundation for security do you propose? Hope?

What's the downside?
